Every organization needs an employee who comes to work with a great attitude and the kind of versatile skill set that makes it easier for a team to deliver outstanding client service. Here at Outline, Melanie Sly is that employee.
Currently enrolled as a student in the public health program at Ryerson University, Melanie joined our team by chance after applying to a company that didn’t have any available positions. Luckily, the owner of that firm knew that Outline was hiring. Melanie came aboard and soon took on a key administrative role as a client care specialist, showing an ability (and willingness) to handle any job, no matter the difficulty. She’s assumed key tasks such as managing our CRM and other databases, processing compliance packages, handling administrative work and file formatting. “It’s an all-encompassing job,” she says.
Indeed, helping our team ensure full compliance on the many transactions we process each month takes time and patience to ensure the job gets done right the first time. Melanie never fails to deliver. “You have to help clients through the process because for many people, it’s the first time they’ve ever applied for a mortgage,” she says. “That means helping them understand everything from the process for securing a mortgage, to what a credit score should be and how it can negatively effect what kind of product they can get.”
What Melanie wants you to know about Outline Financial: “I think our clients are always pleasantly surprised to learn just how friendly our team is, and how everyone is so open and willing to communicate. No client is treated as a number at Outline, and neither are the employees. It’s a really nice, boutique atmosphere that creates a welcoming experience for everyone.”
Here’s what you may not know about Melanie: She’s a former equestrian rider who competed for the Ryerson equestrian team. “If my parents wouldn’t get me a dog, a horse was the next best thing,” she says of a passion for riding that blossomed at age 8. A love of animals inspired Melanie to pursue a career as a veterinarian, until she realized that her professional ambitions lie elsewhere. “My entire family works in public health, so after doing a course in the field I realized that it was an area of study I wanted to pursue.” A busy life leaves Melanie without much free time, but when she’s away from school or the office, she loves spending it with family and friends and trying out new vegetarian recipes.
