If you doubt whether years spent working in Canada’s oil fields could possibly offer the right professional foundation for a career in the highly-competitive mortgage industry, Mark Field would beg to differ.
Before coming on board as a Mortgage Agent with Outline Financial, Mark leveraged a business law education at Ottawa’s Carleton University to oversee crews and ensure standards compliance in accordance with provincial laws and company policies for various oil and gas companies in Alberta—a tough job that involved working in remote regions where harsh conditions were the norm. Needless to say, it was a role that required extreme attention to detail. “Working in Canada’s oil fields is considered one of the most dangerous jobs in the country,” he explains. “The work environment demands precision and accuracy. Mistakes or carelessness can often be fatal.”
After years spent working in the Oil Sands, Mark wanted a change. He decided to apply his skills—not to mention experience working under stressful and intense conditions—in the real estate industry. Becoming a mortgage broker allowed him to work one-on-one with clients, helping them navigate what can often be the most significant financial decision of their lives. To Mark, providing great service starts with offering the right advice. “There’s a common misconception that a mortgage rate is all that matters, but a mortgage is about much more than just the rate,” he points out. “The cheapest rate doesn’t always make it the best option. There are many other factors to consider when selecting the right product from term and pre- payment privileges, to early payment penalties, and so much more.”
What Mark wants you to know about Outline Financial: “We focus on being the best, so we can provide the best experience possible to our clients. That means keeping a strong focus on training and continuing education, but it’s our culture that really stands out. At Outline, it’s all about delivering great service as a team, which makes me want to push myself to be the very best broker I can be.”
Here’s what you may not know about Mark: He’s a huge fan of the outdoors where he can usually be found spending time with friends and family—sitting dockside on a pristine lake, preferably—or riding his prized all-terrain vehicle through back country trails.
